AS I LAY DYING redefine their identity with the self-titled metalcore powerhouse As I Lay Dying!
On February 5, 2027, Grammy-nominated metalcore pioneers AS I LAY DYING return with their new self-titled album As I Lay Dying via Napalm Records. For 25 years, the band has helped shape the global metalcore scene and secured a firm place in the genre’s history with eight acclaimed studio albums, uncompromising heaviness and their unmistakable melodic sound. Rather than marking a new beginning, the album represents a logical evolution, deeply rooted in the band’s identity. As I Lay Dying was created through the most collaborative songwriting process in the band’s history. Since their formation around the turn of the millennium, AS I LAY DYING have played a major role in shaping the development of modern metalcore, selling more than one million albums worldwide, achieving Top 10 chart positions including in the Official German Album Charts and the US Billboard Top 200, and influencing generations of bands with their combination of crushing heaviness, melodic songwriting and technical precision.
As I Lay Dying combines the band’s signature heaviness with new melodic and modern elements, pushing both their heavier and their most accessible sides further forward. Lyrically, As I Lay Dying explores change, letting go and personal growth. “Retribution” is arguably the darkest and heaviest AS I LAY DYING song to date, while “Polarized” takes a new direction as a more modern and accessible track. “If I Fall” combines raw intensity with vulnerability and deals with abandonment, judgement and the strength to rise again. “Echoes”, meanwhile, unfolds with a dark, emotionally charged atmosphere and addresses breaking free from destructive bonds as well as finding the courage to make a new start. The album was produced by Chris Clancy and Tim Lambesis, with “No Way Out” produced by Dusten Boles. It bridges the band’s past and future, expanding their sound without losing the identity that has made AS I LAY DYING a defining force in metalcore.
AS I LAY DYING – Tim Lambesis (vocals, additional guitars), Chris Clancy (bass, main chorus vocals), Don Vedda (guitar, vocal harmonies), Bill Hudson (guitar) and Tim Yeung (drums) – present an album that captures the full breadth of their musical range. Immortal Disfigurement vocalist CJ McCreery appears on “No Way Out”. The artwork was once again created by Corey Meyers, who has shaped the band’s visual identity since “My Own Grave”.
With As I Lay Dying, the metalcore pioneers deliver not a retrospective, but a confident statement that shows where they stand today: heavier, more melodic, more versatile and more collaborative than ever – while remaining unmistakably AS I LAY DYING.
