The new Dolby Atmos album “Evolution” is a concept album that explores the development of humanity within the tension between technology, identity, consumption, and nature — partly from a human perspective and partly through the “eyes” of artificial intelligence. The lyrics are often ironic, dystopian, and yet emotionally tangible. The songs on “Evolution” collectively tell a story about humanity in a rapidly changing world.

In “Evolution”, an artificial intelligence looks at humankind — fascinated, yet critical — and presents itself as the solution to all our problems. “Blitzcoin” plays with the hype surrounding cryptocurrencies and shows how easily people can be seduced by digital promises. “Say No to Nature” satirizes our relationship with the environment and illustrates how strongly we believe we can replace nature with technology.

Personal themes also have their place: “Your Body” is a call for self-love and mindful treatment of one’s own body, “Mr. Guilty” deals with the feeling of constantly failing, and “FOTC” humorously and self-ironically tells the story of a first sexual experience. “Freak Anthem” stands for self-determination and the courage to be different, while “Legacy” questions our responsibility for the future.

With the hymn-like song “Mars”, the band describes humanity’s race to conquer the planet Mars in order to escape the inevitable destruction of Earth. But when the first representatives arrive on Mars, a nasty surprise awaits them. Taken together, all songs create a multi-layered picture: critical, direct, sometimes ironic — and always focused on what defines us as human beings today.
