This debut album—an exceptionally rare example of the so-called Neue Deutsche Todeskunst movement (a label the band has always rejected, yet one that undeniably shaped their legacy)—features scene classics such as "Kain Und Abel" and the iconic "Gottes Tod". Deleted in 2004, it has since only been available through collectors' markets.
To this day, Das Ich masterfully combine electronic, symphonic, and early industrial elements into an explosive musical cocktail unlike anything else in the often cliché-ridden landscape of German-language music. The band quickly established itself as a defining force and became synonymous with experimental and innovative electronic music. Celebrated as one of the driving forces behind a new genre emerging from the post-wave, Kraftwerk, and Einstürzende Neubauten era, Das Ich soon reached the top of the independent charts. Extensive tours across Europe further cemented their reputation, earning them the title of "apocalyptic eccentrics," as their live performances became infamous for their dark, bone-shaking intensity and theatrical spectacle.
