With “Les Pensées magiques”, OPERA MULTI STEEL deliver their 15th studio album and complete the diptych initiated with “Les Passions tristes”.
A work shaped by the fractures of our contemporary world, it explores the tension between disillusionment and the growing rise of irrational beliefs.
Remaining faithful to its unmistakable sonic identity, OMS blends old-school 80s analog synths, recorders, and situational sound effects with more contemporary rhythmic structures. The album navigates seamlessly between pop, folk, synth-wave, soft electro, and vocal inflections drawn from classical, medieval, or sacred music. As always, the band offers hypnotic choruses and striking melodies.
Patrick L. Robin’s lyrics approach the theme of magical thinking with poetic distance, questioning a central dilemma of our time: Should we believe only what we see, or see only what we believe — even at the risk of losing common sense and retreating into comforting illusions? Religion, politics, ecology, sociology... all become fertile ground for the irrational, a phenomenon that continues to expand and reshape collective thought.
The album artwork, created by Brazilian graphic designer Hernan Czauski from a painting by French artist Étienne Azambre (1859–1933), reflects this return to obscurantism and the deceptive allure of ready-made truths. The seemingly innocent young communicant reveals, upon closer look, a reptilian gaze charged with ambiguous intentions.
Mastered by Martin Bowes at Cage Studio, the vinyl edition features eight tracks.
