Throbbing Gristle gelten heute zu Recht als die wichtigsten Vertreter der klassischen Industrial Music. Die Band ging aus der Aktionskunstgruppe COUM Transmissions (CT) hervor, die etwa Ende 1969 von Cosey Fanni Tutti und Genesis Breyer P-Orridge gegründet wurde. 1974 stieß der im Jahr 2010 verstorbene Designer und Techniker Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson zu ihnen, im Jahr darauf Chris Carter. Zum 40. Jahrestag seiner Erstveröffentlichung wird am 03.11.2017 "The Second Annual Report" als limitierte Edition auf weißem Vinyl im Original Packaging (inkl. DL) und als Doppel-CD erneut veröffentlicht werden.
